Because of the current budget situation, the University Libraries are planning for a reduction in expenditures for journal subscriptions.
Librarians have been working for several weeks preparing a list of subscriptions totaling $1.66 million that might be canceled. They have looked at actual use, how often a journal is cited by UGA authors, cost per use, overall cost and how each title supports research and teaching at the university. This list represents a reduction of up to 21 percent of expenditures for subscriptions.
Faculty, staff and students can review the list and provide comments online at http://journals.galib.uga.edu/. Link to a comment form by clicking on a specific title. Comments will be used to prioritize the list in the event that some additional funding is available.
Submit comments to the site by Oct. 17. Cancellations would take effect with issues published in 2009.
