Applications are currently being accepted for the 2011 Outreach Scholarship/W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Award, administered by the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities. Up to two of the applications will be recommended by a committee administered by the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach to be UGA’s nominees for the Southern region (The award recognizes five regions).
To apply, e-mail a 500-word abstract to ovppso@uga.edu by Jan. 10. The abstract should describe the outreach and engagement partnership; the level of reciprocity in the relationship between the university and the community partner(s); the level of interdisciplinary cooperation, and the integration of the outreach and engagement partnership with the university’s research and teaching missions; the specific impact of the partnership on the community partner(s); and on the university and its faculty (publications, promotion and tenure), students, and staff; and the development over time, the duration, and the sustainability of the outreach and engagement partnership. The applicant(s) selected to be UGA’s nominees will be asked to complete the full nomination packet by early March 2011 to meet APLU’s entry deadline of March 21, 2011.
UGA’s nominee(s) will be recognized at the 20th annual Public Service and Outreach Meeting and Awards Luncheon, showcased in news stories throughout the year and featured on the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach website.
In October 2011, the five regional winners will be considered for the national C. Peter Magrath University/Community Engagement Award, which will be presented at the annual APLU conference in November 2011.
