Leadership Institute for K-12 schools joins UGA’s Fanning Institute

Athens, Ga. – The Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement will transfer from the University System of Georgia Board of Regents to the Fanning Institute at the University of Georgia effective July 1. GLISI is a public/private initiative that provides leadership training and district capacity building for K-12 school systems throughout the state.

“GLISI is a welcomed and important addition to the University of Georgia and further strengthens our public service mission,” said Jere Morehead, UGA senior vice president for academic affairs and provost. “The Board of Regents and GLISI have chosen UGA’s Fanning Institute as its new host. This strategic decision enhances the positive impact that both Fanning and GLISI have on education, communities and economic development in the state.”

Founded in 2002, GLISI has a national reputation for helping education leaders positively impact student achievement and improve organizational effectiveness, ensuring that the workforce in Georgia’s schools is able to meet the needs of communities in the 21st century. School systems that have partnered with GLISI report gains in student performance, staff collaboration and leadership for learning.

“The Fanning Institute is well known across the state and nation for its leadership and community development programs. The addition of GLISI, a signature program with a national reputation, is an important addition to the Fanning Institute’s capacity to serve,” said Steve Wrigley, UGA interim vice president for public service and outreach.

The Fanning Institute’s strong tradition of public service and successful partnerships across the state will provide GLISI with new opportunities and a platform to continue its successful work with Georgia’s public schools. Together, GLISI and the Fanning Institute can offer a comprehensive set of services to Georgia’s communities. GLISI, with its strong team of leaders and record of success, will continue to advance the shared mission of the Office of the Vice President of Public Service and Outreach and the Fanning Institute.
