Vibrantly colorful exhibits await visitors to the main and science libraries through Aug. 12.
UGA Welcomes the World focuses on the role of volunteers during UGA’s hosting of two events of the 1996 Olympics. The primary exhibit is in the Hargrett Library on the third floor of the main library. Small exhibits also are on display at the entries to the main and science buildings.
About 80 percent of the artifacts come from the libraries’ archival collections, which were primarily donated by UGA employees who volunteered during the games. Some are on loan from other volunteers, including a number of library employees.
The exhibits are part of the community observance, which will culminate on Aug. 10 with a celebration of the Olympics featuring a re-creation of the torch run.
