Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Jane and Harry Willson Center for Humanities and Arts, in partnership with the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, will host the premiere of the locally produced 2006 film “Somebodies” Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at Ciné located at 234 W. Hancock Ave.
“Somebodies” was purchased by a cable television network after its debut at the Sundance Film Festival but never received theatrical distribution. The screening is the Willson Center’s keynote event in the UGA 2012 Spotlight on the Arts festival and is supported by the UGA Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.
The film, which was shot entirely in Athens with many local cast and crewmembers, is a dramatic comedy about a young African-American man caught between the religious priorities of his family and the partying lifestyle of his college-age friends.
“Somebodies” was written and directed by Grady College alumnus Hadjii, who also starred in the film, and was produced by Nate and Pam Kohn. Nate Kohn is a Grady College professor of telecommunications and associate director of the George Foster Peabody Awards.
“We are thrilled that Hadjii’s Sundance film Somebodies will have its first Athens screening,” Kohn said. “I urge everyone to come out for this Athens premiere screening of this Sundance Film Festival favorite.”
Hadjii and co-star Kaira Akita will introduce the film and hold a question-and-answer session with the audience after the screening. The two now live and work in Los Angeles.
The Willson Center will host a public reception following the screening.

Ciné is a cinema and arts venue managed by the Athens Film Arts Institute, a local nonprofit organization.
The Spotlight on the Arts festival is presented by the UGA Arts Council, of which the Willson Center is a participating unit. More than 50 events are scheduled during the nine-day festival in November. For more information, see arts.uga.edu.
