Athens, Ga. – A memorial reception will be held for Norman Thomson, a late University of Georgia College of Education professor, Feb. 1 from 4-6 p.m. in Grand Hall Rooms D and E of the Tate Student Center.
Thomson, an associate professor of science education for more than 17 years, died Nov. 13 after a long battle with cancer. His wife of 35 years, Rose Jepkorir Chepyator-Thomson, a professor of kinesiology in the UGA College of Education, will host the reception.
As a faculty member at UGA, Thomson was named the College Science Teacher of the Year by the Georgia Science Teachers Association in 2007. He received the UGA African Studies Institute Award for developing and co-directing the Kenya Study Abroad Program in 2005. He received the College of Education’s D. Keith Osborn Award for Teaching Excellence in 2002.
