A law professor at Memphis University prohibited students from taking notes with laptops during her class earlier this month, USA Today reported.
June Entman said she discouraged the high tech process because students might focus on transcribing her lecture rather than analyzing the lesson. Several students petitioned the American Bar Association to allow laptops, claiming that relying on hand-written notes puts them at a disadvantage because their notes are often incomplete. ABA and university officials sided with Entman, saying technology use in the classroom is up to the professor’s discretion.
