After 70 years without a football program, Mercer University in Macon announced it will compete on the gridiron again in 2013, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.
The private university’s board of trustees agreed to establish a football program, which will bring the total number of teams the university fields to 15. Officials said the university will seek to join the Pioneer Football League, a football-only conference made up of institutions that participate in NCAA Division I non-scholarship football.
