At its March meeting, the University System of Georgia Board of Regents unanimously approved a status change for Middle Georgia State College in Macon. On July 1, the college will become the state’s newest public university and change its name to Middle Georgia State University.
Middle Georgia State is the result of the 2013 merger of Middle Georgia College and Macon State College.
The board of regents also approved Middle Georgia’s first master’s degree program—in information technology—which will roll out this fall.
