Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Mu Chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity was selected among approximately 5,500 member chapters nationwide to receive the 2012 Chapter Award of Distinction from the North American Interfraternity Conference. Mu is the first chapter of Sigma Nu and the first fraternity at UGA to secure the award.
The award was presented at the NIC annual meeting in Washington, D.C. late last month.
The Chapter Award of Distinction recognizes an undergraduate chapter that is highly functioning, is in compliance with NIC standards, seeks to educate others about the benefits of a values-based fraternity experience and works to maintain a healthy relationship with its national organization.
“The Mu Chapter has established a standard of excellence at the University of Georgia,” said Michael Pisciotta, senior coordinator for the Greek Life office. “They serve as an inspiration to other groups on campus, and they are a shining example of what can be accomplished through collaborative efforts.”
Chapter president Andrew Monk said he’s proud of what his chapter has accomplished this year.
“Above all, Mu Chapter remains dedicated to raising the bar. Mu’s growth in membership, dedication to campus involvement and development of leadership has demonstrated a commitment to excellence,” he said.
The Mu chapter also was recently recognized as a winner of the Rock Chapter Award, the highest award a chapter can receive from the national parent organization. In addition, the chapter has received the Pursuit of Excellence Program Award from Sigma Nu for exceling in personal development, membership value and operational excellence.
Founded in 1909, the NIC is the trade association representing 75 international and national men’s fraternities. Through advocacy, collaboration and education, the NIC works to ensure that fraternities can operate in an environment that is conducive to their success.
The Mu Chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity is a registered student organization in the Greek Life Office within UGA’s Division of Student Affairs. For more information, call 706/542-4612 or see http://ifc.uga.edu.
