The process for turning eight University System of Georgia institutions into four is still under way, but the names of schools to be born out of those consolidations have been decided. This month the board of regents approved the name South Georgia State College for the South Georgia College and Waycross College consolidation. Georgia Regents University will be the name for consolidating Augusta State University and Georgia Health Science University. Both proposals were recommended by campus implementation teams. Those names, along with the previously approved names of University of North Georgia and Middle Georgia State College for two other consolidations, will be effective in January, pending accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
