M. Peter McPherson, president emeritus of Michigan State University, will become president of the 214-member National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges on Jan. 1. He succeeds C. Peter Magrath, who is leaving NASULGC to become a consultant and serve as senior adviser to the College Board. McPherson says that his priority as NASULGC’s president will be to ensure that students continue to have access to high-quality education despite decreasing public support for state colleges.
