The NCAA Division I board of directors is considering a complete ban on text messaging in recruiting potential athletes, the Chronicle of Higher Education reported. If the new ban passes, coaches would not be able to use the technology to immediately communicate with high school prospects and skirt NCAA restrictions on phone calls. The Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the National Association of Basketball Coaches have both backed the proposal. The Chronicle reported that top-ranked prospects can receive up to 100 text messages a day from college coaches.
