New center will study terrorism

A new research center focusing on terrorism will be located at the University of Maryland’s College Park campus. The university will receive a three-year, $12 million grant to develop the center, which will study how terrorist groups form and recruit members, what motivates them and how they pick their targets. The goal of the center is to help the federal government predict when and where attacks will occur, better prepare the public for them and recover more quickly from them. Maryland scholars will participate in the research, along with professors of community health sciences, geography, psychology and sociology at 10 other colleges and universities.
