UGA President Jere W. Morehead and interim Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Libby V. Morris have launched a 2014 presidential hiring initiative focused on interdisciplinary collaborations. The initiative will create up to 12 new tenured or tenure-track positions for the purpose of enhancing the university’s ability to engage in research, teaching and service in emerging topics that transcend disciplinary boundaries.
The deans of UGA’s 17 schools and colleges have been asked to submit proposals for interdisciplinary hires to the Office of the Provost. A committee will review the proposals, and an announcement of areas that will receive positions will be made later this semester.
“I hope this interdisciplinary faculty hiring initiative will encourage our deans and faculty to explore new ways of working together to grow our research enterprise and improve our educational programs,” Morehead said.
