Exchange program allows students to earn UGA credit at campuses nationwide

Athens, Ga. – The National Student Exchange program at the University of Georgia is currently accepting applications from students for participation during the 2012-2013 academic year. A domestic parallel to study abroad programs, the NSE allows students to attend classes at other participating institutions nationwide while paying UGA tuition and fees.

Eligibility information, brochures and application forms are available in the NSE office located in room 102U of the Tate Student Center. Applications will be accepted through Feb. 28.

Students are invited to drop by the NSE office to speak with program coordinators. Dedicated NSE office hours are 9-10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays from Jan. 17 to Feb. 28 and 10 a.m. to noon on Fridays from Jan. 13 to Feb. 24. No appointments are necessary.

The National Student Exchange gives students access to the resources of nearly 200 member colleges and universities in 48 states, three U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. The campuses range in size from large research universities to small liberal arts colleges and include historically black colleges and universities, those serving primarily Hispanic populations and those with ethnically diverse campuses.

Students can participate in NSE for up to one academic year. Benefits of the program include expansion of personal and academic experience, access to courses and professors with different perspectives and exploration of new cultures and communities.

“Many of our returning students describe NSE as a life-changing experience that has made them more independent, self-confident and resourceful,” said Josh Podvin, UGA Center for Student Organizations senior coordinator and campus NSE coordinator.

“The program has expanded their risk-taking capabilities and helped them better define their academic and career goals.”

Since its founding in 1968, NSE has placed more than 100,000 students in exchange programs.
