In his February State of the Union address, President Barack Obama called for federal student aid to be linked to “affordability and value” of colleges.
“Colleges must do their part to keep costs down, and it’s our job to make sure that they do,” he said.
The president called on Congress to pass legislation that would make affordability and value a factor in deciding which colleges get some types of federal aid.
After the speech, the U.S. Department of Education released an interactive online College Scorecard designed to help students and their families compare colleges for value and affordability.
