Office of Instruction launches Comprehensive Learner Record

The University of Georgia Arch on a sunny day

The Office of Instruction is excited to announce the launch of the Comprehensive Learner Record (CLR) at UGA. The CLR is a new digital credential that will combine students’ courses and activities, highlighting their validated achievements and competencies.

“By helping students recognize and articulate what they’ve learned, we’re not just enriching their education — we’re giving them a powerful advantage in the job market,” said Marisa Anne Pagnattaro, vice president for instruction and senior vice provost for academic planning.

The CLR connects students’ coursework and involvement to the university’s six new Institutional Competencies: Critical Thinking, Analytical Thinking, Communication, Social Awareness and Responsibility, Leadership and Collaboration, and Creativity and Innovation. These six competencies cover important skills valued by today’s employers, but they are not easy to quantify or visualize. The CLR will help students do both.

The CLR Portal is now available for all students to log into using their UGA MyID. In the portal, students can:

  • Learn more about the Institutional Competencies
  • Search for courses that have been mapped to these competencies, and
  • Familiarize themselves with the platform’s features.

As students complete courses and activities, their CLR Dashboard will show competencies in progress and completed each semester. Competency information will also appear in Athena and the Bulletin, helping students register for opportunities aligned with their career goals. Additional opportunities will be added to the CLR every semester.

When registration opens each semester, students can use their CLR to reflect on their progress and visualize their strengths, along with potential areas for growth, across the six competencies. This will help students see how their experiences are connected and help them navigate future opportunities.

Students can later curate their CLR for graduate school applications, job searches or networking — highlighting the experiences most relevant to their audience. Multiple versions can be created and shared, giving students flexibility in how they tell their story.

With the CLR, students at the University of Georgia will easily showcase their experience, tell their story and step confidently into their future.
