Late last month the Office of Sustainability launched a new program aimed at reducing office waste at UGA .
The Sustainable UGA Office Program provides employees with simple practices to implement in their offices to reduce energy and water use, as well as the amount of solid waste generated at UGA.
Participants in this program will help to fulfill UGA’s commitment to conserve resources and advance sustainability on its campuses.
“Offices are responsible for a significant amount of campus resource consumption and present an opportunity for tremendous savings,” said Tyra Byers, sustainability coordinator in the Office of Sustainability. “The Sustainable UGA Office Program supports those who want to make a difference by assisting with information and resources.
“We have spoken with many office managers across the university who are committed to reducing their environmental footprint,” Byers also said. “This program aims to provide people with the tools to do just that.”
As a part of this program, offices may become Sustainable UGA certified by making a commitment to implement recommended sustainability measures. Certified offices will receive an office toolkit, which provides information and ideas for implementation, along with program incentives, support and a wall plaque to recognize their commitment to a more sustainable UGA.
All UGA offices are encouraged to participate in the program.
The UGA Office of Sustainability works closely with departments and individuals to coordinate, communicate and advance sustainability initiatives at the university.
