An article in the Nashville, Tenn.-based Tennesseean quoted Audrey A. Haynes, associate professor of political science, about the media attention attracted by the ascent of Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.
“In the end, everything, including the coverage of her daughter’s pregnancy, helped the campaign gain some support,” said Haynes, who studies elections and the media. “But it probably helped solidify a good many of Obama’s supporters, and it probably lost McCain some independents who learned about Palin’s social conservative stances.”
