Nationally acclaimed poet Terrance Hayes will read from his work, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Ciné Cinema, 235 W. Hancock Ave. The event is sponsored by the UGA’s Creative Writing Program.
Hayes is the author of Wind in a Box (Penguin, 2006), named one of the best 100 books of 2006 by Publishers Weekly; Hip Logic (2002), winner of the National Poetry Series Competition; and Muscular Music (1999), winner of the Kate Tufts Discovery Award. Poems in Lighthead, his forthcoming collection from Penguin in 2010, have appeared in The American Poetry Review, Poetry and The New Yorker.
The recipient of several awards including a Whiting Writers Award, a Pushcart Prize, three Best American Poetry selections, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and a 2009 Guggenheim Fellowship, Hayes is professor of creative writing at Carnegie Mellon University and lives in Pittsburgh.
