Howard J. Wiarda is one of the leading global scholars of international relations, comparative politics and foreign policy. He also is the author/­editor of more than
70 books.

Now, in a highly personal and swashbuckling account, Adventures in Research Volume IV: Return Visits, Wiarda tells the stories that lie behind his adventures in Europe, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and South Africa. Complementing his academic work, these volumes are filled with impressions, research findings, gossip and preliminary ideas and concepts—the true “stuff” of how scholarly books are written.

Volume IV focuses on the ­countries and regions  to which the author has returned time and again in his research, and their development during a 45-year period.

The Dean Rusk Professor of International Relations and head of the department of international affairs at UGA, Wiarda is also a  senior scholar at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C. He has taught at some of the nation’s leading universities and conducted policy work in the state and defense departments as well as for think tanks in the nation’s capital.
