UGA professor wins award from the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry:

Warnell School’s Bob Izlar named a Fellow for his contributions to the forest industry

Athens, Ga. – University of Georgia Professor Bob Izlar has been named a Fellow of the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry, an independent organization chartered by the Swedish Crown that focuses on connecting international practitioners of agriculture and forestry to take initiative on policy and science issues affecting sustainability.

The academy promotes agriculture, forestry and natural resources with the support of sound science and practical experience for the benefit of society. Founded in 1811, the academy describes itself as a “meeting place for the green sector.”

Izlar, who is director of the Center for Forest Business in the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, is one of just nine foreign fellows named to the academy this year and is the only non-European to be inducted. Izlar, who also teaches in Warnell, oversees the Center for Forest Business’ mission of providing national leadership in education, research and service to the forest industry, private landowners and the state. He frequently travels internationally to speak about issues such as natural resource management policy, timberland investments and competitive business practices in the global marketplace.

He was nominated by forestry colleagues in Sweden and attended the198th commemorative meeting in Stockholm City Hall in late January to receive his membership diploma and medal.

“I’m very pleased to be honored in this way by the academy and my dear colleagues in Sweden,” Izlar said. “It is also an equal recognition of the world-class reputation enjoyed by the Center for Forest Business, the Warnell School and the University of Georgia.”
