“RadioNation” host Laura Flanders to give talk at UGA

Athens, Ga. – Laura Flanders, host of Air America’s “RadioNation,” will talk about her newest book, Blue Grit: True Democrats Take Back Politics from the Politicians, on Tuesday, June 26, at 5:15 p.m. in room 148 of the Student Learning Center on the UGA campus. A book sale and signing will follow the talk.

This event is free and open to the public. On-campus parking is available free after 5 p.m. For more information, call 706/542-2846.

Matt Rothschild of The Progressive has described Flanders’ new book on strategies for Democratic victory in 2008 as “more than just a good news book … Blue Grit presents a smart, provocative argument that rebuts some of the conventional wisdom on the left … This is a meaty, rewarding book.”

Laura Flanders joined Air America Radio to host “RadioNation” when it launched in March 2004. Her writing is featured in The Nation, Alternet, Ms. magazine and the San Francisco Chronicle, and she is a regular guest on “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” “The O’Reilly Factor” and “Good Morning America.”

A leading international expert on women and the media, Flanders was founding director of the Women’s Desk at the media watch group FAIR and is author of Bushwomen: How They Won the White House for Their Man; and Real Majority, Media Minority: the Cost of Sidelining Women in Reporting. She is also co-author of W Effect: Bush’s War on Women.

Flanders’ UGA visit is sponsored by The Institute for Women’s Studies, a unit of UGA’s Franklin College of Arts and Sciences that brings together multidisciplinary perspectives on women and gender from across all schools and colleges at UGA.
