The Georgia Department of Natural Resources awarded Renato Castelao $72,291 to assess the effects of sea level rise and increased frequency of storms on Georgia’s estuaries. Estuaries-where seawater and freshwater meet-are among the most productive natural habitats in the world. Castelao, an assistant professor of marine sciences in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, will study water inundation and salt intrusion on saline and riverine ecosystems.
