San Jose State U. moves to end admission guarantee for locals

Due to budget shortfalls, San Jose State University will suspend its policy of guaranteeing admission to any local resident who meets California State University’s eligibility requirements starting in fall 2013, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

The San Jose, Calif.-based institution faces a $50 million decline in state funding. Officials at the institution said it will maintain a local preference for potential students who choose an undeclared major, the Chronicle reported.
