SecureUGA, an information security program developed collaboratively by several departments at the university, was nominated for the 2009 Project of the Year Award presented by Executive Alliance, the creator and provider of leadership-recognition forums that honor and celebrate achievement of executives in different industries.
The award honors a project completed in the preceding 12-18 months that has had an impact on an organization’s risk management or information security posture.
“Recognizing the role each faculty, staff, and student has in protecting and minimizing risk in managing sensitive and critical data, SecureUGA was designed, developed and implemented in April 2008,” said Barbara A. White, chief information officer and associate provost. “It delivers a role-based security training and accountability model in which every individual, regardless of their campus position, has a responsibility to protect sensitive and critical data.”
SecureUGA is comprised of three sections: “Policy and Procedures,” “Technology” and “People.” In 2008, 88 percent of eligible UGA employees completed the first four presentation modules.
The UGA community also was commended for its commitment to information security.
