Shanta Dhar, an assistant professor of chemistry in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, received a $318,763 Idea Development Award from the Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program to develop an effective method of combining chemotherapy with anti-inflammatory drugs to treat metastatic prostate cancer. Metastasis occurs when cancer cells spread from their place of origin to other places in the body. Dhar, a nanomedicine expert, will design and engineer nanoparticles that can blend and precisely deliver a combination of drugs that will target prostate cancer cells.
