The nation’s first interstate compact for education, the Southern Regional Education Board was created in 1948 by Southern states to help government and education leaders work cooperatively to advance education and improve the social and economic life of the region.
SREB’s Doctoral Scholars Program was created in 1993 to specifically increase the number of minority scholars who earn Ph.D.s and seek to become faculty members at colleges and universities.
