Silent diplomacy

As tensions have escalated amid the recent bluster by North Korea, Han S. Park, University Professor of International Affairs and the director for the Center for Global Issues at UGA, has been quoted often as an expert on North Korean foreign policy by news agencies including Al Jazeera’s English language website and in The Washington Post.

In the Post article, Park is featured in a story about North Korean diplomats in New York. According to Park, North Korean diplomats in the U.S. have very little power to affect relations.

“These people in New York are not authorized to say anything or do anything-they don’t have the authority to deviate from specific instructions,” Park told the newspaper.
