Virginia Carson, president of South Georgia State College, will retire June 30.
Carson was appointed interim president of the former South Georgia College in 2008 and named permanent president in 2009. She became president of South Georgia State College with the consolidation of South Georgia College and Waycross College in 2013.
During her tenure, South Georgia was approved by the board of regents to become a “state college” and offer bachelor degrees. The first cohort of bachelor of science in nursing students graduated in 2014. The first cohort of bachelor of science in biological sciences students will graduate this year.
