The Chicago Tribune reported on the work of a team of scientists from UGA working at the Advanced Photon Source, the X-ray research facility at Argonne National Laboratory. The group solved the structures of five separate molecules in less than 24 hours, a speed record. Zhi-Jie Liu, a research scientist in the department of biochemistry and molecular biology at UGA and leader of the team, explained that the techniques the team had used to speed the research could be adopted by others. “Nothing like this has ever happened before,” he said. “This is a great opportunity to show how high-throughput structure determination is possible.”
