UGA claimed its second highest enrollment for a spring semester this year with a 0.9 percent increase over 2011’s numbers. The 2012 total of 33,367 undergraduate and graduate students was 253 students shy of the record set in spring 2010 with 33,620 students.
Undergraduate enrollment was up 1.5 percent with an additional 361 students. Graduate numbers declined by 182 students, a loss of 2.7 percent. Professional enrollment-which includes students studying law, pharmacy and veterinary medicine-was up 57 students, or 3.5 percent.
The 2012 total includes 32,510 students attending classes in Athens (a 1.2 percent increase), and 857 enrolled at UGA’s extended campuses in Buckhead, Griffin, Gwinnett and Tifton (an 8.6 percent decrease).
In spring 2012, the number of students new to UGA totaled 1,289. Of those, 114 were freshmen, 437 were sophomores, 324 were juniors and 38 were seniors. UGA also had 274 new graduate students, five new professional students, 57 unclassified undergraduates and 36 transient students.
