The University of Georgia has much to celebrate this year, from its ranking as the No. 16 best public university in America to winning its second straight college football National Championship.
In appreciation for their contributions to the university, UGA staff were invited to have their photo taken with the back-to-back National Championship trophies on March 9 at the Tate Student Center.
“It’s so exciting as staff that we actually get to see the National Championship trophies. The football team and UGA Athletics in general really bring the university community together,” said Mary Kate Rubin, a business team lead in the Terry College of Business. “As a lifelong fan, my father always talked about the 1980 National Championship, and it’s great to get to live that moment in the next generation with our own National Championships.”
As another token of appreciation, staff also were treated to a specially made National Championship chocolate.
“I’m so grateful to come out today,” said Shirley Allen, assistant director of development in the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach. “It’s really special. A lot of our staff may never get to go to a game. This may be the only time they get to see the trophies. What a really unique way for President Morehead to lift everyone’s spirits.”
