The UGA Staff Council held elections at its Feb. 3 meeting to select new officers for its upcoming term, which begins July 1.
Jerry Daniel, an IT professional in the department of mathematics, will serve as president; Steve Gibson, a human resources coordination in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, was elected vice president; Heather Wawrzyniak, an administrative associate in the Animal Health Research Center, will serve as recording secretary; and Vickie Coker, a training and development consultant in the Office of Human Resources, was elected to the coordinator position.
As president, Daniel will serve a two-year term, but the others will be limited to one year in their elected positions.
“We changed the by-laws last year so that the president could serve two years,” Daniel said. “We thought that one year is kind of short—by the time you get going good, your term’s over.”
Daniel, who will succeed current president Stuart Ivy, said he hopes to focus on increasing the ranks of Staff Council during his tenure.
“The main thing I’d like to do is get more staff members involved,” he said. “I think we really do have a lot of good things to offer to the university.”
The group’s next meeting is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. March 3 in Room 201 of the Pharmacy South building.
