Study Away Fair set for Sept. 15

The University of Georgia will host the 36th annual Study Away Fair on Sept. 15.

This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event will be held virtually through UGA’s Handshake platform. Students can register for the event here.

Organized by the Office of Global Engagement, the fair will feature around 60 exhibitors showcasing programs at UGA international centers abroad or programs that are led by UGA faculty. Programs run through international partner universities and other providers also will be on display. The fair is open free to all UGA students.

“The Study Away Fair is for students to explore UGA’s various education abroad programs in one easy location,” said Amanda El-Kadi, global education advisor. “It is one of our office’s key events, and the virtual platform will facilitate group info sessions as well as individual one-on-one meetings between UGA students and study away program directors. Students will be able to look into programs for every major, including service-learning and internship opportunities.”

Global education is a general term covering everything from traditional study abroad to interning, working, volunteering and conducting research abroad. During the 2018-2019 academic year, almost 3,200 UGA students studied abroad, traveling to more than 60 countries.

In 2019, the fair attracted 1,800 students over two days. Students also will be able to attend an Education Abroad 101 session during the fair. The session covers how to find a program that fits their course of study and includes scholarships and other funding assistance options and specific information on program schedules and cost. Program directors, global education advisors and a dedicated group of students who have already studied abroad (known as global education junior advisors) will also be on hand to answer students’ questions.

Students may now apply for a passport through UGA’s Passport Services located in the Tate Student Center, Room 375. For current hours and additional information about application requirements and fees, visit Passport Services’ website at https://tate.uga.edu/passports/
