Religious studies jobs have declined sharply in recent years, and the jobs that are available are less likely to be tenure-track positions.
That’s according to a study conducted jointly by two prominent groups in the field of religious studies, the Society of Biblical Literature and the American Academy of Religion.
The study, which looked at the number of job postings within those two religious studies organizations between 2001 and 2010, revealed drastically fewer postings in 2008 and 2009. By 2010, job postings were still below the 2001 levels.
