The number of students taking UGA classes this summer is almost unchanged from a year ago as 15,363 are enrolled for summer semester, down 24 from summer of 2005.
Registrar Rebecca Macon reported that 14,378 students are taking classes on the main campus in Athens and 985 students are enrolled at the Gwinnett University Center and UGA centers in Tifton and Griffin, or are taking independent study classes.
On-campus enrollment, which is down by 83 students from last summer, includes 9,630 undergraduates, 4,382 graduate students and 366 students enrolled in the professional schools of law, pharmacy and veterinary medicine.
Enrollment at off-campus centers is up by 59 students over last year.
The Gwinnett University Center has 230 undergraduates and 431 graduate students. Only undergraduates are enrolled at Tifton, which has 25 students, and Griffin, which has 10. Independent study enrollment totals 289.
Macon said the overall total includes 1,618 students who have not enrolled in UGA previously, including 370 first-time freshmen.
Eleven students who would be freshmen are transferring with enough credit earned through joint enrollment or advanced placement to be classified as sophomores.
