A plan to drill for natural gas on University of Tennessee land has been put on hold, according to The Tennessean, after the university received zero bids from contractors for the project. The original plan would have allowed hydraulic fracturing, often known as fracking, to draw gas from university-owned forest land.
The project was met with resistance from environmentalists and residents who lived near the forest.
According to the news report, there were four drilling companies that expressed interest in the project, but none submitted a formal bid.
