U. of Texas Southwestern Medical Center receives $50 million donation

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas received a $50 million donation from a local billionaire and his wife.

The money will go towards the university’s cancer center with the ultimate goal of it being designated a comprehensive cancer center by the National Cancer Institute. The donors, Harold C. and Annette Simmons, already have made significant contributions to the university, and the cancer center already has been named in Mr. Simmon’s honor.

The gift will be paid in cash over the next five years, according to university officials.
