The University of Georgia announced final admissions decisions for the Class of 2028 on March 15. UGA received more than 43,090 total applications, with more than 15,900 students accepted for the fall semester. Applications from in-state students were up 7% this year.
UGA accepted students from 49 states, Washington, D.C., and 41 countries. The university also accepted students from 148 of Georgia’s 159 counties.
Admission was offered to those with superior academic records. The middle 50% of admitted students reported a GPA of 4.05-4.33; an ACT score of 29-34; an SAT score of 1280-1470; and 8-13 AP, IB or dual enrollment courses.
“As the University of Georgia’s reputation for excellence continues to grow, we are attracting the best and brightest students from across our state and around the world,” said UGA President Jere W. Morehead. “I congratulate all of the students admitted to the Class of 2028 and look forward to the many contributions they will make to our stellar academic community.”
The incoming class comprises approximately 80% in-state students and 20% out-of-state students. First-generation students, where neither parent or guardian has earned a bachelor’s degree, make up 21.6% of the class.
In total, UGA received 20,100 applications from in-state students representing 618 Georgia high schools. The university received 23,440 applications from out-of-state and international students.
“While getting into the University of Georgia is increasingly competitive, UGA is the state’s flagship institution, and our primary focus is on recruiting, admitting and enrolling Georgia residents,” said David Graves, director of undergraduate admissions. “Our overall admit rate was 37%, with Georgia residents having a distinct advantage in our admission process.”
Of the more than 43,090 students who applied for a spot in the incoming class, 26,760 applied in November through early action, up 3.5% from the previous year. Early action decisions were announced in November for in-state students and in December for out-of-state students. The remaining 16,260 students applied through regular decision in January. Around 6,800 students received acceptances March 15.
Decisions on admission of transfer students for summer and fall 2024 started March 8 and March 14, respectively, with announcements made every Friday until mid-April. Close to one-third of UGA’s graduates enter the university as transfer students.
UGA is extending its commitment deadline from May 1 to May 15 for incoming first-year students who are Georgia residents. The extension is due to delays with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process. May 1 is still the deadline for admitted undergraduate students who are classified as non-Georgia residents or international students. UGA has removed the priority deadline for financial aid.
