UGA Arts Council seeks student representatives

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Arts Council, composed of administrators from campus units focused on the performing, visual and literary arts at UGA, is seeking undergraduate and graduate students to serve as student representatives on the council. Three student representatives will be selected before the end of spring semester 2014 to serve on the Arts Council during fall semester 2014 and spring semester 2015.

Student representatives to the Arts Council attend council meetings generally held monthly during the academic year. Their role is to provide input to the council from the perspective of students and to be an advocate for the arts at UGA, communicating information about Arts Council events and projects to other students, particularly through established student organizations.

Applicants must be currently enrolled UGA undergraduate or graduate students who are not graduating before May 2015. Applicants must be in good academic standing and should possess strong communication skills and genuine enthusiasm for the arts at UGA.

Nominations are invited from any campus unit. In addition, students may self-nominate. It is not necessary to be majoring in the arts to apply.

Applications/nominations will be accepted through March 31. Recommendations will be forwarded to the Arts Council for approval in April and applicants will be notified before the end of spring semester. Service as a student representative to the Arts Council is for two semesters (fall and spring). Students selected to serve on the Arts Council may reapply for an additional term in spring 2015.

The following information should be included as part of the application/nomination:
• Student’s full name and preferred name
• Student’s email address and phone number
• Major, hometown and year in school (as of fall semester 2014)
• Projected graduation date
• Resumé with brief list of relevant UGA activities and involvement in the arts
• Brief statement about why this student would be a good representative to the Arts Council

Email the above information to Sharron Hannon (shannon@uga.edu) no later than March 31. For more information about the UGA Arts Council, see the Arts at UGA website (http://arts.uga.edu/) or Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/UGAarts).
