UGA associate dean of students elected to board of trustees for national student union association

Athens, Ga. – Willie L. Banks Jr., associate dean of students for the University of Georgia department of intercultural affairs, has been elected to the board of trustees of the Association of College Unions International. Banks will serve in an at-large post and will take office in February at the association’s annual conference in Chicago.

A graduate assistant while working on his master’s degree at UGA, Banks served as a program advisor and assistant director before being named director of student activities in 2005. During his tenure as director, he managed the transition of student activities into the department of campus life as well as the planning and construction of the Tate Student Center expansion.

He assumed his current post in January 2010.

Banks holds a bachelor’s degree from Mercer University, a master’s degree in education from UGA, and a Ph.D. in counseling and student personnel services from UGA.

ACUI is an organization of more than 600 college and university student unions with a membership of 5,100 administrators, faculty and students. The board of trustees is elected by the ACUI membership and is responsible for the strategic and fiduciary direction of the association.
