Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia has awarded Harris Scholarships to 28 local incoming freshmen for the 2008-2009 academic year.
The highly competitive merit award recognizes a limited number of outstanding graduates who attended a public or private high school in the Athens-Clarke County community. The recipients, who receive $2,000 per year, must have stellar academic records and demonstrate exceptional potential in leadership and community service activities.
Recipients can renew the scholarship for an additional three years of undergraduate study if they meet certain academic requirements.
