Athens, Ga.-The University of Georgia College of Education will present a workshop on the statistical package R, a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics, Jan. 23 – 24 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day in room 143 of UGA’s River’s Crossing.
The basics of programming in R and several of the available add-on packages will be examined during the two-day seminar, sponsored by the department of workforce education, leadership, and social foundations. Workshop facilitators will also offer ways to conceptualize the use of R in developing data strategies. Participants will work on simulated and real data analysis problems throughout the sessions to apply and reinforce class concepts.
The workshop will cover a variety of topics, including introduction to R, data structures in R, data import and export, If-else, loop, write your own function, graphics, summary of data with R, basic concepts of probability and statistics, analysis of means with R, and analysis of variances and regression with R.
Workshop facilitators are Seok-Oh Jeong, a visiting scholar in UGA’s department of statistics and an associate professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Korea; In Heok Lee, a postdoctoral fellow in the workforce education program and an expert in the use of a wide variety of statistical software packages including SPSS, SAS, STATA, R, Mplus, and LISREL; and Jay W. Rojewski, a professor in the workforce education program.
