Athens, Ga. – University of Georgia College of Education student Jeffrey Dumler has received the 59th Paul Tappan Harwell Scholarship.
Harwell scholarships are awarded by the College of Education’s department of elementary and social studies education. Dumler received an award of $750 and will use the money during his student teaching this semester.
Dumler, of Stone Mountain, comes from a family of educators. In addition, he worked with young students in martial arts skills, which led to his decision to pursue a career in education.
UGA alumna Donna Harwell Odum donated $25,000 in September 1983 to establish the Paul Tappan Harwell Scholarship Fund in honor of her late husband, who graduated from UGA with a degree in business administration. The Harwell family stipulated that the purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships for students in the College of Education majoring in early childhood education.
The fund has provided $36,750 in scholarship support.
