UGA earns several awards for photography excellence

The University of Georgia won four awards in the 2025 Council for Advancement and Support of Education’s Circle of Excellence Awards competition, recognizing the best education and nonprofit marketing and communications programs across the world.

Among more than 4,460 entries from 640 institutions in 33 countries, UGA was recognized with silver and bronze awards for several photography projects.

“Our photography team at the University of Georgia sets a very high standard for excellence, as evidenced by the national accolades they have received. Their talent, dedication and creative flair enable us to promote the university in new and exciting ways,” said Kathy R. Pharr, vice president for marketing and communications and chief of staff to the president.

The winners and categories are:

  • Silver Award for Photography: Series or Collection of Related Photographs: Sanford Stadium: Game Ready (Chamberlain Smith and Andrew Davis Tucker, Division of Marketing and Communications)
  • Bronze Award for Individual Photograph: Bear MRI (Andrew Davis Tucker, Division of Marketing and Communications)
  • Bronze Award for Individual Photograph: The Future is Bright (Chamberlain Smith, Division of Marketing and Communications)
  • Bronze Award for Individual Photograph: Swimming in Business (Brian Powers, Terry College of Business)

CASE is a global association of educational and nonprofit institutions that focuses on best practices in the field of advancement and hosts an annual award competition for higher education, postsecondary and nonprofit institutions.

Photographers from the Division of Marketing and Communications alsowon several top awards from the University Photographers’ Association of America (UPAA) at its 2025 symposium. UPAA is an international organization of college and university photographers concerned with the application and practice of photography as it relates to the higher education setting. 

Chamberlain Smith took third place in the Photographer of the Year competition.

Additionally, UGA photographers took first, second and honorable mention awards in the Annual Photo Competition; third place and honorable mentions in the Annual Narrative Competition; and third place in the Annual Publications Competition.
