As part of a major effort to improve information security, approximately 50 million Social Security number records in key data systems at the university will be converted to UGA IDs.
By minimizing the use and access of Social Security numbers in information systems, the university reduces the possibility of inappropriate use or access to Social Security numbers.
Social Security numbers in the university’s central financial, payroll, human resources and administrative systems will be converted to UGA IDs on Dec. 21 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
In addition, any data system at UGA that uses IMS or DB2 will be unavailable during the maintenance window.
Enterprise Information Technology Services will host an open forum for the campus community to discuss the project and what to expect after the migration. The open forum will be held Dec. 5 at 10:30 a.m. in the Tate Student Center Theatre.
