Athens, Ga. -WUGA-TV and WUGA-FM 91.7 and 97.9, the public stations operated by the University of Georgia will add local news broadcasts in March.
Starting March 4, WUGA-FM will broadcast additional local afternoon newscasts to its existing slate of daily morning broadcasts. The news updates will air at 12:04 p.m., 1:04 p.m., 3:04 p.m., 4:04 p.m., 4:32 p.m., 5:04 p.m. and 5:32 p.m. Adding these broadcasts will effectively double the number of WUGA-FM newscasts devoted to events and issues in the Athens/Northeast Georgia area. The station already airs local newscasts weekdays at 6:33 a.m., 7:33 a.m., and at 8:33 a.m., with a broadcast at 10:04 a.m. being added on March 4.
The morning newscasts are reported by Matt Shedd, who came to UGA from KLCC, the public radio station in Eugene, Oregon.
The new afternoon updates will be anchored by Alexia Ridley, a new addition to WUGA who has worked as a television and radio reporter/producer, anchor, executive producer and news director.
Starting March 11, WUGA-TV will air seven local news broadcasts on weekdays at 1:58 p.m., 2:58 p.m., 3:58 p.m., 4:58 p.m. 5:28 p.m., 5:58 p.m. and 6:58 p.m. These broadcast will also be anchored by Ridley.
WUGA-TV is the only television station in North Georgia with local TV news coverage broadcast exclusively for viewers in the Athens/Gainesville/Toccoa/Northeast Georgia area.
