Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia will host the Return to the Arch Alumni Seminar, a three-day educational gathering from March 20-22 at the UGA Hotel and Conference Center. The event is open to the public and this year’s theme is “The Best of UGA.”

The event, coordinated by the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Office of Academic Programs, UGA Alumni Association and UGA Libraries, will feature lectures and interactive presentations by university faculty and staff on a variety of topics ranging from the revitalization of Georgia’s towns to stem cell research, national intelligence and privacy. There also will be a breakfast with UGA deans and tours of the Georgia Museum of Art and Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries.

“The Return to the Arch Alumni Seminar offers a great opportunity to re-engage our alumni with many areas of the university,” said UGA President Jere W. Morehead. “We look forward to welcoming UGA alumni and friends back to campus for a program focused on some of the best academic scholarship at the institution.”

Highlights of the 2014 Return to the Arch Alumni Seminar include:
• Discussions on art appreciation and a tour of the Georgia Museum of Art;
• Updates on the latest in stem cell science, tuberculosis research and Supreme Court cases regarding health care;
• Lectures on Southern history and Georgia’s changing demographics; and
• An opportunity to examine and handle original documents from the American Civil War Atlanta Campaign of 1864.

“The 2014 Return to the Arch Alumni Seminar will offer graduates and friends the opportunity to return to UGA’s beautiful campus in the spring to immerse themselves in the incredible research and resources offered to current students,” said Meg Amstutz, associate provost for academic programs. “This is a rare chance for non-students to access UGA’s rich academic and cultural resources.”

The cost of the seminar is $290 and includes all meals, transportation, seminars and activities, but excludes lodging. A special block of rooms at the UGA Hotel and Conference Center is being held until Feb. 20. Online registration for the seminar is available at www.alumni.uga.edu/alumniseminar.
